Liga MX Clausura Week 13: Top 5 Goals of the Week

Back from the international break, some of these players couldn’t wait to return to their clubs to score some bangers.

5. Edyairth Ortega

Don’t beat yourself up if you’ve never heard this player’s name before, I didn’t either. This tremendous goal off a set play surely made all Liga MX fans pay attention, though. First start with Atlas and first goal for the 21-year-old. With former EPL busts Ravel Morrison and Angelo Henriquez still relegated to the bench, a coaching change and the use of more youth might have been the best thing for Atlas. Hey, it worked this time. Ortega’s goal helped Los Academicos defeat top-ranked Santos Laguna 3-2 on Friday.

4. Cecilio Dominguez

This year’s Clasico Joven was one to remember, especially when you talk goal-wise. Every goal scored in this game made it on the list, and Dominguez’s long shot tied the bow around Club America’s sixth victory of the season against their cross-town rivals.

3. Matheus Uribe

Before Dominguez sealed the deal, Uribe got things rolling on the offensive end for Las Aguilas. It seems every goal the Colombian scores makes it on our weekly list. It proves that while also being a tough defender, the man can also put the ball in the net with absolute ease. With Dominguez and Uribe dropping goals like this more often, the name Darwin Quintero might be quickly forgotten in El Nido.

2. Edgar Mendez

Continuing to go backward in this game, the best goal was the very first one that gave La Maquina the lead and hope early on. A beautiful backheel from Angel Mena found Martin Cauteruccio before Caute found Mendez on the far side of the box and all the Spaniard had to do was slot it home. Unfortunately, Cruz Azul would not find the victory in their soon-to-be new home, losing 2-1 to America on Saturday.

1. Rafael Carioca

Similar to Uribe, Rafael is one of those midfielders that has a deadly strike from distance. And I mean DEADLY. See below for proof. His goal helped Los Felinos defeat the “goleada-magnet” that is Leon, 4-1 on Saturday.
