Edyairth Ortega scored the only goal on Friday as Atlas earned 1-0 victory over rivals Chivas in Rafa Marquez’s last Clasico Tapatio ahead of retirement.

It was an emotional occasion for the Atlas captain, who received a pre-game tifo from the home fans as a tribute for his 22-year career.

It didn’t take long for the Rojinegros to open the scoring, and 40 seconds into the match, Milton Caraglio set up an almost perfect cross for Edyairth Ortega to fire in the breakthrough.

Tactically, Chivas’s approach was limited due to the fact that they were resting the majority of their starters. The Rebaño watched as Atlas twice forced Rodolfo Cota from long range efforts.

Chivas did show a little more ambition in the second half, but it was the Rojinegros again who threatened with long range efforts.

In injury time, Rafael Marquez was subbed out to receive one last standing ovation from the home crowd. Atlas eventually sealed the victory to give Marquez a winning departure from the Jalisco.

While Chivas is mathetmically eliminated from a place in the Liguilla, all eyes for the Rebaño will be on Toronto FC as they look win the CONCACAF Champions League title after earning a 2-1 win in the First Leg.
