Club América and Monterrey had to settle for a point as their Week 15 matchup ended in a goalless stalemate at the Estadio Azteca.

The home side made the brighter start, with youngster Diego Lainez at the center stage of las Águilas’s attacks.

In the 30th minute, after some clever dribbling from the 17-year-old, Jesus Molina miscued a tackle, prompting the ref to give a red card to the Rayados midfielder.

With both teams going scoreless into the break, the second half started with Monterrey sitting deep as América dominated possession, although las Águilas never looked very threatening,

Miguel Herrera’s men did, however, come within a whisker of snatching the three points when Oribe Peralta found himself alone inside the box, only to send his shot well wide of Hugo Gonzalez’s goal.

At the other end, Lucas Albertengo missed a glorious opportunity to put Dorlan Pabon through on a breakaway, but the Argentine opted instead to shoot right at Agustin Marchesin’s hands.

At the end, América failed to capitalize on the man advantage, while a resolute Monterrey happily left the Azteca with a point.
