Simply put, Henry Martin is having the season of his relatively short professional fútbol career. Through the first five weeks of Liga MX action in the 2018 Clausura tournament, Club América’s young Mexican striker has five goals. Three of those five goals came in las Águilas 5-1 thrashing of massively struggling Lobos BUAP.

The first of Henry Martin’s goals came off of a beautifully worked header in the 35th minute of the first half. Everything from the service into the box to the way that Martin struck the ball was simply perfect. There was absolutely nothing the Lobos keeper could have done.

Shortly before the halftime whistle, in the first minute of added time, the second of Club América’s goals found thew back of the net. Yet again, it was Martin who scored the goal. A dangerous cross from Cecilio Domínguez found the head of a diving Henry Martin and in the blink of an las Águilas were up by a score of two goals to none.

In the 47th minute, just after the halftime break, Club América had their third goal of the evening. The scorer of the third goal was none other than Henry Martin. This time a shot from outside the area cannoned off of the head of Cecilio Domínguez and found Martin completely unmarked at the far post for an easy headed goal.

Several yellow cards and about 30 minutes later, Lobos BUAP finally managed to break through the astute Club América defense. Lobos whipped a corner into the box and thanks to some sloppy defending, the ball fell to the feet of Eduardo Tercero who was easily able to score from very close range. Unfortunately for Lobos BUAP, Tercero’s goal would be their last positive action in the match.

The forth Club América goal came in the 78th minute as Henry Martin played Renato Ibarra into space on the right side of the box. With little pressure from the Lobos defense, Ibarra calmly slotted his shot into the bottom left corner of the goal. Both the Lobos BUAP defenders and the keeper should have done more to try and prevent Ibarra’s goal.

The final goal of the match came in the 82nd minute as French striker Jérémy Ménez blasted a shot from the center of the area into the top left corner of the goal off of a great pass by Henry Martin. There was absolutely nothing that anyone in the Lobos defense could have done.

Miguel Herrera and the whole of the Estadio Azteca looked absolutely overjoyed as the fifth goal found its way into the back of the net. For Herrera, this game was the first since he took over Club América last season, that a team made up of his own players played 90 minutes all the way through to thrash an opponent.

For lobos BUAP, it is looking increasingly likely that they will be relegated from the top flight of Mexican fútbol. With this loss, Lobos have taken a measly one point from their five matches in the 2018 Clausura. Something is going to have to drastically change ff the poblanos hope to stay up.
