Mauro Boselli announced on Monday that he will not sign a contract extension with Club Leon, thus putting an end to his time with the club. According to Boselli, the club leadership wasn’t interested in signing an extension, which will mean that he will only have six months remaining with Leon before his contract expires.

While he let it be known that he is interested in finishing his final six months with the team, there is no word from the club owners to see if he will be moved before that. Boselli is by far the star player of the team and was in the hunt to become Leon’s all-time leading scorer. He currently stands in second place behind Adalberto “Dumbo” Lopez.

Although Boselli is 33 years old, it still an odd move for Leon to move away from their leading scorer, who had become an idol with the club and won a scoring title as recently as two tournaments ago (tied with Monterrey’s Aviles Hurtado at 11 goals). It seems that if there is no change of plans from Leon, Boselli should be one of the most coveted players during his final 6 months.

That said, should he remain in Leon, it will be interesting to see how much playing time he will get knowing that he is set to leave the club after next season, where la Fiera will look to bounce back after failing to qualify to the Liguilla for their second straight tournament.
