Real Salt Lake shock Carlos Vela and LAFC

MLS: Knockout Round-Real Salt Lake at Los Angeles FC Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Real Salt Lake celebrated a historic upset at Banc of California Stadium on Thursday, as they came from behind to earn a 3-2 win over Carlos Vela and his Los Angeles Football Club.

The result meant LAFC crashed out of their first MLS Cup Playoffs after finishing the regular season third in the Western Conference.

Damir Kreilach fired the visitors in front before a Danilo Silva header leveled the score from a Carlos Vela free kick.

In the 54th minute, Christian Ramirez pounced on a superb Lee Nguyen pass that appeared to completely change the momentum of the game in favor of the hosts.

But Kreilach scored one of the goals of the season after beautifully volleying in the equalizing goal for Real Salt Lake.

By the 69th minute, RSL took the lead when a deflected cross cleared the line past a defeated Tyler Miller.

The last few minutes of the game proved frantic, but despite LAFC’s best attempts, the match ended with a demoralizing elimination for Carlos Vela and his team.
