Two goals in the second half helped Club América claim a rare 3-2 win over Tigres UANL at the Estadio Universitario.

Las Águilas wasted no time to take the lead when Bruno Valdez tapped in the go-ahead goal after only nine minutes.

In the 33rd minute, Tigres managed to crawl their way to an equalizer when Luis Alfonso “Chaka” Rodriguez weaved his way past a pair of defenders inside the box before finding the back of the net with a brilliant shot.

As both teams went into the half tied at one goal a piece, it was las Águilas who made an immediate impact at the restart. In the 47th minute, Tigres’s set-piece defending did them no favors, and Emmanuel Aguilera rose above his marker to head the visitors into the lead.

Set-pieces would be a formula that would pay dividends for las Águilas all night, and in the 57th minute, Guido Rodriguez found himself with extra space following a corner to score América’s third of the night.

But Tigres replied almost immediately, with Andre-Pierre Gignac scoring one of his trademark long distance shots to put his team within one.

At the end, despite all of Tigres’s best efforts to equalize, Club América claimed a significant victory under the starts of the always difficult Estadio Universitario.
