Dos Santos brothers fail to reach MLS Playoffs for second consecutive season

MLS: Houston Dynamo at Los Angeles Galaxy Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

All the Los Angeles Galaxy needed was a win to make the MLS Playoffs, but on Sunday, the Dos Santos brothers and company blew a 2-0 lead at the break to lose 3-2 to the Houston Dynamo.

Everything looked like it was going the Galaxy’s way when Ola Kamara scored twice in a matter of seconds, but the Dynamo, who had not won a MLS game in more than a month, turned the game on its head. First Romell Quioto scored for the visitors before Mauro Manotas netted a brace moments later.

Galaxy manager, Dominic Kinnear, had to make hand of Giovani dos Santos in the final minutes of the match. The older Dos Santos brother had not made an appearance with the Galaxy since early September because of injury, but could do very little to change the final outcome of the game.

The result means the Galaxy will miss out on the Playoffs for a second consecutive season.

Meanwhile, crosstown rivals Los Angeles Football Club, where Carlos Vela plays, lost 2-1 to Sporting Kansas City earlier in the day. As oppose to the Galaxy, however, LAFC will be in the MLS Playoffs as the Western Conference’s third seed and will face Real Salt Lake on Thursday.
