First place is on the line as Cruz Azul welcome rivals Club América at the Estadio Azteca, in what some say is the biggest Clásico Joven of the last few years.
La Máquina have been stellar in this 2018 Liga MX Apertura, but after dropping points in their latest match against Querétaro, Pedro Caixinha’s men were dethroned from the top of the league table by none other than Las Águilas.
América arrive to this match having gone unbeaten in each one of their last seven Liga MX games and haven’t lost a game against Cruz Azul since 2014.
The wild factor here is that both teams share a common home in the Estadio Azteca, where both clubs have looked practically unbeatable in this Apertura. Cruz Azul, in particular, has won all their home games this season, including matches against Tigres, Toluca, and Monterrey.
Make no mistake about it, for both teams this is a must-win game. Beyond it being a Clásico and beyond the repercussions of losing first place, with the start of the Liguilla just a month away, this is the kind of game that gives you the momentum and confidence to make a deep run in the playoffs. A defeat, on the other hand, would bring back bad memories of past failures. The kind these two teams want to avoid on their path to what would be a historic Liga MX title.
