The main story this past week with regard to Liga MX Femenil was the murder of women’s soccer pioneer Marbella Ibarra. At the time of this writing, there have been no updates regarding the motive or who could have been behind this terrible act. Our thoughts go out to Mar’s friends and family, especially her partner Karla Pérez.

Necaxa 0, Chivas 3: Goals from Miriam García and María Sánchez and an autogol from Lucia Muñoz saw Chivas down Necaxa 3-0. Chivas remains in second place in Group 2 while Necaxa remained in eighth place.

Atlas 3, León 0: Adriana Iturbide, Zellyka Arce, and Joana Robles all tallied for Atlas, who have only lost one of their last eleven games, as they beat León 3-0. Atlas sits in fourth place in Group 2, just seven points behind Tigres. León on the other hand is sixth but is seventeen behind UANL.

Club América 2, Tijuana 1: Xolos got off to a good start thanks to a goal from Karen Maprigat in the first minute, but a brace from Daniela Espinosa saw Tijuana’s winless streak go to ten. América on the other hand ended the week at 26 points and tied with Pachuca for first place in Group 1.

Lobos BUAP 0, UNAM Pumas 1: Diana Gómez scored her second goal of the season on a fantastic assist from Edna Santamaria, and Brissa Rangel and the Pumas defense kept their eighth clean sheet of the season as they downed Lobos BUAP 1-0. Ileana Dávila’s squad sits in fourth place in Group 1 and plays archrivals América in the Clásico Capitalino in the coming week.

Toluca 0, Puebla 2: Mariela Jiménez and Ivonne Najar scored for Puebla, drawing them within five points of fourth-place Pumas in Group 1. Toluca’s stumble however sees Juan Mendoza’s club just one point above Pumas in third.

Pachuca 3, Veracruz 0: Mónica Ocampo had a brace and Yaritzi Rodríguez scored her second goal of the season as Pachuca dominated Veracruz. Group 1 leaders Tuzos hold a nineteen point advantage on Tiburones, whose playoff hopes grow ever dimmer.

Monterrey 4, UANL Tigres 5: A Clásico Regio that lived up to its billing, over 17,000 people watched as three players combined for nine goals. Mónica Monsiváis scored for Rayadas, however her efforts weren’t enough as Belén Cruz scored two and Katty Martínez had a hat trick to give Tigres the win - and Monterrey their first loss all season. The only unbeaten team left in the league? Tigres.

Santos Laguna 2, Querétaro 2: Querétaro raced out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Rebecca Villuendas and Alejandra Tapia, but Santos would fight back and earn a draw thanks to goals from Melissa Sosa and Yahaira Flores. Santos still sits at the bottom of Group 2 with just six points on the season, while Querétaro’s thirteen points put it ten behind fourth-place Monterrey.
