Club America make their long-awaited 2018 Liga MX Clausura debut on Sunday as they pay a visit to Queretaro.

Las Aguilas have made big waves in the last few days, announcing the signings of Jeremy Menez and Andres Ibargüen, but now it is time to translate their off the field success in the transfer market to positive results. While their two flamboyant new signings won’t be available, Miguel Herrera has a very similar core available to the team that reached the Semifinals last season. It is no secret that Club America are still active in the transfer market, both on the purchasing and selling end, and this team can very much be seen as a work in progress. However, a win or draw in Queretaro isn’t completely out of the question, even this early into the season.

Of course, Queretaro won’t be an easy team. Coach Luis Fernando Tena has a full preseason under his belt, and it is expected the Gallos Blancos improve from an underwhelming 2017 Apertura. Among their new signings is former Club America defender Miguel Samudio, while Chile’s Edson Puch also highlights.

The season is long, but at least for Club America, first impressions matter. For Queretaro, a win over a big team like America can always be a momentum builder. If you wanted an entertaining matchup to start the season, look no further. Welcome back Liga MX.
