A recharged America is set to face Atlas at their home stadium. America will be heavily favored against an Atlas team that has lost all their games and already fired their coach, Jose Guadalupe Cruz. New coach Ruben Omar Romano will have a tough task in getting a result against an America team that is undefeated and whose fans are excited over their new signings, Jeremy Menez and Andres Ibarguen.
While America’s results haven’t been overly impressive so far, America fans are recharged after an open practice on Friday at the Estadio Azteca. The practice was meant to welcome new signings Jeremy Menez and Andres Ibarguen and more than 20,000 fans showed up. Menez is set to make his debut with America on Saturday, while Ibarguen got some minutes in their tie against Pumas last week. It will be an important game, especially after their last home game ended in a tie with Pachuca. New forward Henry Martin should also be recharged from getting a call up with the National team for the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Everything points to a positive environment for America and they couldn’t have chosen a better rival than the struggling Atlas. The only negative is that they will miss Mateus Uribe after he got a red card against Pumas.
Atlas is coming into this game tied at the bottom of the table. They’ve lost all three games, and after losing against Pumas in their second match, they fired their coach Cruz. Ruben Omar Romano was hired this week but has barely had any time to work with the team. The only positive thing for Atlas was their midweek win in the Copa MX against Tampico Madero. Still, it all looks like Romano will need a lot of time with a team that has struggled mightily all season. The team looks disjointed, especially in defense and should struggle against an America team that looks strong up top. It will be a tremendous upset for anything but an America win to happen at the Azteca.
