Another action packed weekend for Mexicans Abroad, stretching from the US to Scotland. You can subscribe to my Mexicans Abroad calendar here. Let me know if you have any suggestions on how to improve it. Let’s recap the weekend:
Jona Dos Santos (Galaxy): Kept the ball moving (led the Galaxy in passes) but was lacking in the final third. Per WhoScored, Jona was the lowest rated starter for the Galaxy with Gio being the second lowest.
Gio Dos Santos (Galaxy): Is the focal point of the sputtering Galaxy attack. Managed 2 shots, 1 key pass and not much else. Wasted a late free kick by kicking it right into the wall.
Cubo Torres (Dynamo): Cubo and company gave up a late goal and loss to the Rapids at home. He went the full 90 and had 5 shots but was not able to get one past Tim Howard.
Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad): A surging Real Sociedad had Vela come off the bench again today for 16 minutes. He had 1 key pass, won his 3 duels and even had 2 tackles.
Andres Guardado (Real Betis): A little surprising to see him on the bench today but he did have a lot of travel this weekend to represent Mexico. El Principito only played 16 minutes but contributed 1 key pass, 3/3 crosses, 2/2 dribbles, and 2/3 long balls.
Hector Moreno (AS Roma): Game was postponed due to the field conditions.
Raul Jimenez (Benfica): Came off the bench for the last 18 minutes and was a non-factor.
Miguel Layun (Porto): A surprise start at right back. The former Club America player had 2 key passes, 3/4 crosses, and 4 interceptions.
Tecatito Corona (Porto): Started again but was invisible for the 45 minutes he was on the field. Needs to be more consistent to reach the next level for club and country.
Hector Herrera (Porto): Did not make the bench. Picked up a minor knock during the week.
Diego Reyes (Porto): Made the bench again but did not see the field. Latest reports have Porto wanting to extend his contract.
Raul Gudino (APOEL): Finally went on loan and is expected to compete for the starting keeper spot on a team in the Champions League. Made the bench but did not see any minutes.
Joao Maleck (Porto B/U19): Had a brace for the U19 squad. He now has 3 goals in his first 2 games in Portugal.
Paolo Medina (Benfica/ U19): Has not made his debut yet for his new club but was registered for the UEFA Youth League.
Antonio Briseno (CD Feirense): Did not make the bench
Hirving Lozano (PSV): Went from being named player of the month for the Eredivisie

to getting red carded in the first half of PSV’s upset loss.
Uriel Antuna (FC Groningen): Made his Eredivisie debut. Played 34 minutes but was not too effective. He now has more minutes in the Eredivisie than he had in LigaMX (19).

Chicharito (West Ham): Plays on Monday vs Huddersfield Town.
Marco Fabian (Eintracht Frankfurt): Injured.
Guillermo Ochoa (Standard Liege): Paco Memo Ochoa had a much needed strong performance against the league’s #1 club. Him and his defense pitched a shut out.
Omar Govea (Royal Mouscron): Another 90 minute shift for the Porto loanee. Mouscron is now up to 3rd place in the league with Govea playing nearly every minute this season.
Lalo Herrera (Rangers): Did not come off the bench in Rangers 4-1 win. Has 1 goal in 156 league minutes so far this season.
Carlos Pena (Rangers): Opened his European scoring account and has totaled 77 minutes this season in 3 appearances off the bench
Estrella de la Semana
Carlos Salcedo (Eintracht Frankfurt): Finally saw the field for his new team after recovering from his shoulder injury. Started on the right side of a 3-man backline. He had a very active debut and held his own as Eintracht shut out Monchengladbach. Look for him to settle in quickly and become a fixture in the back.
