Lozano shines in PSV debut

European club season is upon us. The Mexicans Abroad family might have suffered some defections (looking at you Jona/Vela) but it also saw some new additions. Let’s see how they did this past week:

Jona Dos Santos (LA Galaxy): He started and went a full 90 in his first MLS start. The Galaxy lost 2-0 but Jona had a solid game himself. He had 4 key passes, went 57/60 in passes, 2/2 in long balls and connected on 2 of his 3 crosses.

Gio Dos Santos (LA Galaxy): Out due to hamstring injury but expected to play next week.

Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad until Jan): Officially signed with LAFC but will be with Real Sociedad until the January 2018 window.

Andres Guardado (Real Betis): La Liga begins next week with El Principito being a key cog for his new club.

Hector Moreno (AS Roma): The former Pumas player has been used at left back nearly as much as he has played center back this pre-season. Serie A starts next week with Roma taking on Atalanta.

Raul Jimenez (Benfica): Scored in Super Cup last week vs Vitoria. Benfica plays their league game Monday with Raul making the squad.

Miguel Layun (Porto): Still on the fringes of the roster but Fenerbahce might be close to a deal for the Mexican International. He had a late cameo this weekend, 6 minutes.

Tecatito Corona (Porto): The only Mexican getting starts at Porto right now. Has looked dangerous for Porto this season and is a fixture on the wings.

Hector Herrera (Porto): Has gone from automatic starter to bench option. HH has made 2 appearances off the bench for a total of 30 minutes.

Raul Gudino (Porto B): Rumored to be heading to Vitesse but nothing has been confirmed. Toluca has popped up as a possible destination to replace the injured Talavera. Has not made the gameday roster for either Porto or Porto B so far this season.

Omar Govea (Royal Mouscron): Govea’s loan is off to a good start. The former Club America cantero scored a goal last game and notched an assist this past weekend.

Joao Maleck (Porto B): On loan with a buy option, similar to what Porto did with Govea and Gudino. Has not seen the field yet for Porto B.

Chicharito (West Ham): Not a debut to remember but West Ham was playing away to Manchester United. He did receive a warm welcome from the fans but was roughed up on the field. United won easily 4-0 with Chicharito getting 2 shots but none on target.

Uriel Antuna (FC Groningen): Signed a 2 year loan from Manchester City and has just started training with Groningen.

Antonio Briseno (CD Feirense): Did not make the gameday roster for 2nd straight league game. Signed a 2 year deal with the Portuguese club.

Carlos Salcedo (Eintracht Frankfurt): Still recovering from his shoulder injury suffered at Confederations Cup. About a month away from returning to the field.

Marco Fabian (Eintracht Frankfurt): Suffered an injury and is out for the next 6-8 weeks.

Guillermo Ochoa (Standard Liege): An error in stoppage time ruined his club’s chances of getting a point.

Lalo Herrera (Rangers): Saw 44 minutes of action as Rangers fell 2-3 to Hibernian after going down to 10 men.

Carlos Pena (Rangers): Came on for 25 minutes.

Estrella de la Semana

Hirving Lozano (PSV): Pachuca’s jewel kicked off his European career with a bang. He scored a debut goal and showed off his full arsenal of weapons. He finished the game with 2 key passes, 6/9 dribbles, and 7 Shots on goal with 1 hitting the post. He missed a couple chances to get a brace but still had a good game overall. WhoScored rated him at 8.76 for the match and awarded him with Man of the Match award.

Here he is after his debut:
