Mexico needed a spark after Michael Bradley gave the United States an early lead. El Tri got one from Carlos Vela.
The Real Sociedad attacker got out on a counter-attack and blasted a left-footed attempt from the top of the penalty area past Brad Guzan to get the equalizer.

The sequence started with a golden opportunity for the USA to extend their lead to 2-0. But Bobby Wood couldn’t get much on his attempt and Memo Ochoa alertly pushed the ball forward to catch the USA defense out of position.
Vela then got the ball on the right wing and was allowed to dribble into the middle of the field where he let rip with a left-footed rocketed that gave Guzan no chance.
