In 1908, Club de Fútbol Pachuca won the first ever Copa Tower - the earliest predecessor of the modern Copa MX. 109 years later, Pachuca can again be the first to win the Copa MX - this time with the women’s side going up against Tijuana for the hardware.
Pachuca
Pachuca has been the unstoppable force in this tournament, posting video game numbers against opponents. 3-0-0 in the tournament, they scored 18 goals and allowed only 4. Former Sky Blue FC and current Mexico forward Mónica Ocampo leads all goalscorers with six. She’s not the only threat however, as 17 year old Berenice Muñoz and Yamile Franco (who has also been capped by El Tri) each have four goals.
Tijuana
If Pachuca has been the unstoppable force, Tijuana is the immovable object. Goalkeeper Isela Parra and defenders Ana Lara, Nubia Ayala, and Verónica Pérez have all played every minute for Las Xolas and have conceded zero goals. It’s not all defense though, as Fabiola Ibarra and Christian Jaramillo each have three goals as Tijuana also went 3-0-0 in the group play.
