Andre-Pierre Gignac makes light work of Chivas as Tigres win 3-0

Andre-Pierre Gignac hit a brace as Tigres kept their Liguilla ambitions alive with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Chivas at the Estadio Universitario.

Although all eyes were on Alan Pulido, who was making his first return to the Estadio Universitario since his controversial departure from Tigres back in 2014, it was Gignac who opened the scoring on six minutes when he headed home an Ismael Sosa corner.

With Chivas coach Matias Almeyda opting to rest several players on the defensive side of the ball, the visitors looked to their attackers for inspiration, but neither Angel Zaldivar or Eduardo “La Chofis” Lopez seemed capable of making much difference.

The second half followed soon after, and it was Jesus Dueñas who was on hand to convert from inside the box in the 74th minute to double Tigres’ lead.

Gignac then got on the scoresheet a second time in the 83rd minute. After some good work from Javier Aquino on the left wing, the Frenchman was there to head in his second of the night and seal vital three points for the champions.
