Atlas 3, Xolos 3: Highlights and box score

A wild match that saw Matías Alustiza and Avilés Hurtado each get a brace.

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente press release

Despite their recent offensive woes, Tijuana was able to get a road point from a tough Atlas team, grinding out a 3-3 draw in Estadio Jalisco.

Argentine forward Matias Alustiza got the scoring started early, when Gibran Lajud bobbled a corner in the 12th minute.

Xolos would answer quickly however. In the 14th minute, Avilés Hurtado would put Xolos on the board with a great bicycle kick off of the corner kick.

In the 28th minute, Michael Orozco and Martín Barragán clashed heads. Both were down for quite some time, however both were able to return to play. The physical play continued, with several hard fouls on both sides. Avilés Hurtado hobbled off in the 34th minute after going up for a ball and having his legs knocked out from under him. Thankfully, he too was able to return to action.

In the 37th minute, a great pass sprung Milton Caraglio. Caraglio fought off a defender and squared the ball to Avilés Hurtado, and he did not miss.

Atlas would strike back in the 40th minute when José Madueña was able to split the Tijuana defense and fire a shot past Gibran Lajud to draw the clubs level once more.

As the clock went into stoppage time, Gibran Lajud made a couple of fantastic saves to keep things level for Los Tijuas as the clubs went into the locker room for the half.

In the 49th, Lajud picked up where he left off in the first half by swatting away a header on frame by Gaddi Aguirre.

in the 57th, Nacho Malcorra’s free kick hit the arm of Bryan Garnica, who was in the wall. The penalty was awarded, and Milton Caraglio did not miss from the spot, putting Xolos up 3-2.

In the 63rd, Michael Orozco was whistled for a handball in the box, and Matías Alustiza calmly hit his penalty. The match was tied once more.

In the 70th minute, Jorge Ortíz was shown a straight red card for a hard shoulder on Fidel Martínez. While it was card-worthy, to me it didn't look like he deserved a red. Nonetheless he was sent to an early shower and Tijuana was down to ten men.

In the 74th minute, Paul Arriola sprung Avilés Hurtado in on goal. While he had the goalkeeper isolated, he wasn't able to put his shot on frame.

In the 87th minute, Bryan Garnica hit a cross that went off of Valenzuela’s arm. The penalty was a bit harsh but was justly awarded, however Alustiza’s resulting shot was smothered safely by Lajud.

Xolos were efficient in killing the clock off, not allowing many chances in the allotted stoppage time.
