Miguel Herrera and Tijuana are looking to hoist Xolos’ first piece of silverware since the club won the 2012 Liga MX Apertura. To do it, they will have to get past Herrera’s former side Club América tonight in the first knockout round of the Clausura 2017 Copa MX.

Xolos were able to best UAT Correcaminos and Cimarrones de Sonora to advance into the knockout stage, while Club América were one of the seven best second-place teams from the group stage. Santos Laguna won the Group 3 round robin while Coras FC were the odd men out.

Xolos have thus far used the Copa MX tournament to give opportunities to some of their first team players who don’t see regular action, however Herrera may decide that since they’ve advanced to start playing more of his regular starting rotation.

From this point forward in the tournament, it’s a single elimination bracket. The winner between Xolos and Club América will move on to play against the winner of the Toluca-Monarcas Morelia match, which will also take place tonight.
