Bruno Valdez scored early in the second half to a rescue a point for Club America in a 1-1 draw at Leon.
Las Aguilas were trailing to a Leon goal at the stroke of halftime after Mauro Boselli headed home following a set-piece situation. It was no more than the hosts deserved, who looked like the better side despite playing most of the half with ten men.
The evening was a special one for 16-year-old Diego Lainez who made his league debut with las Aguilas in the second half. The young winger made an immediate, darting down the left flank and forcing a corner in the 46th minute.
From the subsequent corner, Carlos Darwin Quintero’s cross found Bruno Valdez, who made no mistake from close-range to level the score at one goal a piece.
Club America’s second half onslaught continued, and their best chance to win the game came in the 86th minute when Quintero forced a good save from William Yarbrough.
Fortunately for La Fiera, they were able to survive to hold on for a point.
The night also ended on a sad note for Club America forward Renato Ibarra, who departed on a stretcher and is set to miss the rest of the season through a serious leg injury.
