Tijuana (5W 1D 2L) and Pachuca (4W 2D 2L) are two of the top three teams in Liga MX, and only two points separate the two sides at the moment. At the halfway point of the Clausura, this could wind up being a turning point for either team.

Club Tijuana

Xolos put together one of their best team performances in a long time last week, defeating Monterrey 2-0. Tijuana was only the second club to silence Rayados’ high-powered offense all year - only León was able to do that in a 0-0 draw at the end of January. If Xolos can prevent the same kind of lapse that saw them concede three goals to Pumas in the span of just ten minutes, they have to be in the conversation for best team in Liga MX.

Pachuca

Another club in the conversation is Pachuca, who present a much different look than Monterrey. Where Xolos had to focus on stopping Rayados’ offense, Pachuca has played in five 1-0 matches this season, winning three of them. Their only multi-goal Liga MX match was the opener - a wild 4-2 win against León. They did just dispatch Costa Rica’s Deportivo Saprissa 4-0 in CONCACAF Champions League play on Tuesday, so the potential is there to put up numbers. Whether or not they will be able to is a different story. Xolos rested most of their defensive starters in their Copa MX match against Cimarrones de Sonora on Tuesday, which won’t help matters any for Tuzos. A big game from Hirving Chucky Lozano could be the difference for Pachuca.
