Eduardo Vargas boosted Tigres’ CONCACAF Champions League title hopes as the Liga MX champs cruised to a 2-0 win over the Vanoucer Whitecaps in the first leg of their semifinal tie.
The Canadian side looked rusty all evening, as Tigres dominated from start to finish, gradually forcing the Whitecaps to succumb to the pressure of the match.
The pivotal moment of the game came in the 66th minute when a bad Kendall Waston clearance finished with the same Costa Rican defender putting the ball into the back of his own net.
Tigres did a good job not to fall into complacency, and with three minutes remaining, Eduardo Vargas doubled the lead for the hosts, smashing in a one-time shot past David Ousted to seal his team a much-deserved victory.
The 2-0 victory puts Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s side in the driver’s seat to a place in the CCL final, with both teams set to meet again on April 5 at BC Place.
