Mexico Moves Up In FIFA Rankings

The latest FIFA rankings are out, let’s see where El Tri is now

As much as everyone hates FIFA’s rankings and think they do not mean much, they are the only rankings that affect World Cup seedings. They also affect other international tournaments. So in other words, they are something you have to pay attention to. Mexico has moved up to #17 in the latest rankings. They were #18 in the previous list. They are still the highest ranked CONCACAF nation with Costa Rica right behind at #19. It was Costa Rica who was the highest ranked CONCACAF nation in last month’s ranking, at #17, with Mexico at #18. The USMNT fell one spot to #29 to round out the top 3 CONCACAF nations. The top 5 remains the same: Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Chile, and Belgium.

The Elo Ratings are a little more respected but have no real effect. Mexico is currently 11th in the World Football Elo Ratings, highest CONCACAF nation. Costa Rica (22) and the US (32) round out the top 3 CONCACAF nations.

Will Mexico ever be able to get back in the seeded pot at the World Cup?
