In the last match of the Liga MX weekend, Santos Laguna welcomed Cruz Azul to the Estadio Corona. These two sides could not be separated as they drew 2-2, with the goals being split in both halves of play.

After neither side really created any dangerous opportunities in the opening 20 minutes, Santos Laguna won a penalty in the 24th. Martin Cauteruccio hauled down Jonathan Rodriguez inside the box. Rodriguez stepped up to take his own penalty and sent Jose de Jesus Corona the wrong way to open up the scoring.

Immediately down at the other end, however, in the 27th minute, the visitors leveled the match once more . Angel Mena, J. Rodriguez’s opposite number, stood over a pending free kick. The 29-year-old forward curled an absolute beauty of a free kick into the roof of the net, over the outstretched arm of Jonathan Orozco.

Santos Laguna came inches away from doubling their lead before the halftime interval. Rodriguez, who netted the opener, curled a low shot destined for the bottom right hand corner. The shot, though, was over hit a bit too much, as it went around the outside of the far post.

In opposite fashion in the second stanza, it was Cruz Azul who took the lead, eight minutes after the restart. Off of a corner sent in by Adrian Aldrete, Gabriel Peñalba sent a weak header towards the post. Orozco came off his line to try to swat the attempt away, but missed, and Martin Rodriguez poked the ball home to take the advantage.

That advantage, however, lasted all of four minutes as Santos Laguna found their second goal of the night. Play was built up superbly around the box before J. Rodriguez hit a ball back towards Djaniny, who finished his effort with a well placed first-time strike.
