Old foes collide as Chivas de Guadalajara take on city rivals Atlas in another edition of the Clásico Tapatío.

It goes without saying, there is no bigger game in the state of Jalisco than this one. Traditionally, the Clásico Tapatío is among the most entertaining matches of the season, and this one promises to be no different.

For Chivas, beyond getting one over their rivals, this is about getting back into winning form. Matias Almeyda’s side arrive on the back of a 1-1 draw with Santos Laguna, where they struggled to put the ball into the back of the net. This has not been a rare occurrence for Chivas, who have had trouble translating their dominance into goals in recent months.

That said, a quick look at the table and you will see Atlas is just a point behind the Rebaño Sagrado. While the Rojinegros have struggled away from home, at the Estadio Jalisco, where this Clásico Tapatío will take place, they have been a force to be reckoned with, marching with a perfect record of two wins in two matches.

The feeling in Colomos is that with coach José Guadalupe Cruz at the helm, the team can find some consistency and make their long-awaited return to the Liguilla.

The bad news for fans of the Red and Black is that Chivas is no stranger to the Estadio Jalisco. Chivas used to share a home with Atlas, and they have not lost in their last four “visits’ to the Jalisco.

Of course, as Clásicos go, stats are just stats. One thing is for certain, we can expect an exciting match in Guadalajara.
