Per a press release from the club, Tijuana center back Yasser Corona is undergoing surgery for an injury to his sixth cervical vertabrae during last night's Copa MX match against Correcaminos UAT. Corona's immediate condition is not currently known.
During a play late in last night's match, Corona went up for a header and looked to clash heads with a Correcaminos player. As Corona fell toward the ground, he made no effort to brace himself for impact and his head hit at a most dangerous angle. Reports also indicate that he went into convulsions after the incident. He was put into an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
I have decided not to link video of the incident out of respect to Yasser and his family. There has been an overwhelming outpouring of support for him on social media and I would like to share that instead.
En Correcaminos nos solidarizamos con @yasscorona elevando una plegaria con el sincero deseo que su estado no sea de gravedad ¡Ánimo Yasser!
