You can subscribe to my Mexicans Abroad calendar here. Let me know if you have any suggestions on how to improve it. Let’s recap the weekend:
Jona Dos Santos (Galaxy): Club season over.
Gio Dos Santos (Galaxy): Club season over.
Cubo Torres (Dynamo): Competes in the Western Conference Championship this week.
Carlos Vela (Real Sociedad): Did not even make the bench as Real Sociedad prepares for life without him
Andres Guardado (Real Betis): Plays on Monday, 11/20 versus Eibar. El Principito is still 2nd in La Liga in assists.
Hector Moreno (AS Roma): Made the bench but did not see any action. He only has 227 minutes of league action this season. The rust showed during the Mexico friendlies.
Raul Jimenez (Benfica): Had a 9 minute cameo in Benfica’s cup win. He is another European-based player in need of minutes
Miguel Layun (Porto): 14 minutes was all he got this weekend and he picked up a yellow within 1 minute of coming on.
Tecatito Corona (Porto): Started and was ineffective before having Layun come on for him.
Hector Herrera (Porto): HH was carrying a small knock and was given the day off. He is ready for Porto’s mid-week Champions League game.
Diego Reyes (Porto): Made the bench but saw no action. Him and the other Mexicans are in Porto’s CL squad.
Raul Gudino (APOEL): Made the bench but did not see any action. I dont think it makes sense but Chivas are allegedly negotiating for his return.
Joao Maleck (Porto U19): Maleck played all 90 minutes and assisted on Porto’s first of 4 goals.
Paolo Medina (Benfica U19): Made the bench but did not get on the field.
Antonio Briseno (CD Feirense): The Atlas product has entrenched himself at centerback for Feirense. He went 90 minutes in their 2-1 cup loss.
Hirving Lozano (PSV): Besides his red card game (5.19), this was his lowest WhoScored rating this season, 6.34. It was his second league game without an assist or goal. However, I wouldn’t look too much into it. Chucky is still averaging a goal or assist every 69.5 minutes.
Uriel Antuna (FC Groningen): Coming off his first call into the senior national team, Antuna got the start on the right side of FC Groningen’s front 3. He only had 10 passes in his 59 minutes on the field.
Chicharito (West Ham): Hamstring injury is expected to keep him out for a couple of weeks.
Carlos Salcedo (Eintracht Frankfurt): Another start at right centerback for Frankfurt’s back 3. Salcedo has started 5 straight club games and seems to be a guaranteed starter now. He had 2 interceptions, 2 tackles, 5 clearances and went 2/5 on long balls
Marco Fabian (Eintracht Frankfurt): Still injured
Guillermo Ochoa (Standard Liege): In a game that had 3 red cards, neither team pushed for the first goal. The game ended in a scoreless draw and saw Standard Liege move up to 8th in the league.
Lalo Herrera (Rangers): Another appearance off the bench, 17 minutes.
Carlos Pena (Rangers): Has not made the bench since Caixinha was fired.
La Estrella de la Semana
Omar Govea (Royal Mouscron): Fresh off his debut with the national team on Monday, Govea added to his goal total in Belgium on Saturday. He now has more goals (4) than he does yellow cards (3) in league play. The 21 year old had himself quite the week.
Anything catch your eye this weekend?
