Cecilio Dominguez scores in debut as Club America beat Veracruz 1-0

Cecilio Dominguez gave the Club America fan base much to look forward to after opening Clausura 2017 with two straight defeats. Debuting for las Aguilas, Dominguez delivered the game-winning goal for his new team with 30 minutes left in the game. Facing los Tiburones Rojos, the goal by Dominguez collected America’s first three points of the season.

Wearing the number 10 jersey, Dominguez played all 94 minutes of the match. Following a scoreless first half, America had numerous shots fly inches wide from the Veracruz goal. On a rapid transition play, Renato Ibarra received a short pass from Oribe Peralta near the midfiled. Ibarra then ran the ball into Veracruz’s territory and sent a low pass to the center of the penalty area towards Dominguez. A diving header from Dominguez and a fortunate bounce handed the lead for las Aguilas and the Paraguayan international’s first Liga MX goal.

The win over Tiburones Rojos takes America out of last place. For Veracruz, the team showed its characteristic stingy defense, but their squad had just two serious efforts against America’s resistance.

Las Aguilas continue their season next Saturday against Monarcas Morelia.
