Tijuana (2W 0D 1L) looks to build on strong momentum when they host Cruz Azul tonight. Xolos have won their last two Liga MX matches - a 6-2 beating of Puebla at Estadio Caliente and a 1-0 win against Chivas in Guadalajara. They will host Cruz Azul (1W 1D, 1L), who won their first match of the year last Saturday against Necaxa.

Xolos’ offense has been the key to the club’s success. Milton Caraglio and Avilés Hurtado both lead the club with two goals each, and it’s been the ability of Xolos to seize upon opportunities that has seen them succeed. In the win over Puebla, Puebla had equalized twice, only to have that overturned by a Xolos goal within minutes. Against Chivas, Xolos’ defense was able to withstand multiple chances and keep the scores even until Caraglio was able to head in a cross from Paul Arriola to give Xolos the win.

Cruz Azul’s offense hasn’t been as prolific as Xolos, only scoring once from the run of play in Liga MX competition. The lone goal in the run of play came in the first match of the Clausura against Necaxa, when Adrián Aldrete hit a long distance left-footed strike early in the match.

In their match last Saturday against Monterrey, they were able to get a 2-2 draw against Rayados off of a converted penalty by Ángel Mena and a Nicolás Sánchez own goal. Cruz Azul also played on Tuesday in the Copa MX against Alebrijes de Oaxaca, drawing the Ascenso MX side 1-1 in a game that was played mostly by bench options - although ex-Xolos player Richard Ruíz played all 90 minutes.
