The Clausura 2017 Copa MX gets underway tonight as Xolos head to Hermosillo to face Cimarrones de Sonora. Xolos are coming off of administering a 6-2 beating to Puebla on Friday night, answering questions about the club’s offensive abilities after the departure of striker Dayro Moreno to Atlético Nacional. Expect Miguel Herrera to give a night off to a lot of his starters, instead most likely opting to get a look at Luis Michel, Juan Martín Lucero, and Joe Corona as well as Sub 20s players.
Cimarrones on the other hand are looking for something to build upon, as their season in the Ascenso MX has gotten off to a bad start. Cimarrones have lost all three matches in the Clausura, and were it not for Murciélagos’ -6 goal differential, they would be at the bottom of the table. Cimarrones did make the Apertura Liguilla, bowing out in the first round to Zacatecas. The club is made up primarily of players on loan from Querétaro, including Mexican-American Josué Soto
Xolos and Cimarrones were drawn in to Group 1 with Correcaminos UAT. Cimarrones and Correcaminos will face off next Wednesday, and Xolos next Copa MX fixture is a home match against Correcaminos on January 31.
