From the end of one centenary season to the start of another, Club America open their 2017 Liga MX Clausura campaign against Toluca. Las Aguilas had an underwhelming centenary year, and as fate would have it, America return from the winter break against another Liga MX team celebrating 100 years.

For the Diablos Rojos, the match is a special occasion, as this will mark the first game back in their new and improved stadium. Toluca have also spent big this season, including on former Club America captain Rubens Sambueza, who could be playing his first game in a Toluca jersey against his ex team.

America have turned the page on a 2016 Liga MX Apertura where they ultimately lost the final on penalties against Tigres. Ricardo La Volpe is back with las Aguilas for another season, and as ever, expectations are high in Coapa.

Historically, Toluca is a place that suits the azulcremas well. La Volpe’s men have not lost in Toluca since 2010, totaling one win and four draws in that period.
