Xolos de Tijuana held on to a first half goal from Milton Caraglio to edge out Atlas and stay top of the Liga MX table.
In truth, both keepers had little to do early in the match, but as the game wore on, Aviles Hurtado started to exert his influence. It was in the 41st minute that an Hurtado through ball picked out Gabriel Hauche, who prodded the ball into the path of Milton Caraglio to head past Oscar Ustari from close range.
Xolos then had to play the majority of the second half without the ball, but Atlas could not find a way past Miguel Herrera’s side.
In contrast, Atlas goalkeeper Oscar Ustari was kept into the action, and he pulled a good save from a Caraglio shot.
In the closing stages of the game, Javier Salas was sent off for the Rojinegros, as it was not to be Atlas’ night.
Xolos now head into the international break top of the Liga MX table and next will visit Club America at the Estadio Azteca. Meanwhile, Atlas will look to bounce back against Queretaro .
