Chivas Guadalajara vs. Veracruz: Highlights

Nestor Calderon scored the winner in the 77th minute as Chivas overcame Veracruz 1-0 at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente.

Chivas had plenty of chances to open the scoring in the first half, but in addition to hitting the woodwork early, Orbelin Pineda and Isaac Brizuela were denied by goalkeeper Meliton Hernandez, who was starting his second game in a row after the benching of Peruvian international Pedro Gallese.

It then proved to be frustrating second half for the Rebaño Sagrado as the Tiburones Rojos piled on the pressure.

But just moments after Nestor “Avion” Calderon was subbed on for Angel Zaldivar, the forward converted a cross from right-back Jesus “Chapo” Sanchez to give Chivas the lead. The goal was cruel on Meliton Hernandez who made a total of six saves for Veracruz.

At the end, Calderon’s header proved to be the winner as the pressure continues to mount on Veracruz manager Pablo Marini.

Next, Chivas will host Monarcas Morelia in Zapopan, while Veracruz will visit a struggling Cruz Azul.
