Player Ratings: Chivas vs. Tigres, Liga MX Apertura 2016

It was gut check time when Chivas hosted undefeated Tigres

Tigres defeated Chivas 1-0 with an Ismael Sosa goal Tuesday night at the Estadio Chivas for the tenth match date of the 2016 Apertura.

Chivas pressed for the majority of the first half, but was unable to put the ball in the back of the net. Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti and company struggled to produce first half chances with Chivas’ continuously smothering them in the first half. On one side, Carlos Cisneros wreaked havoc while Isaac Brizuela worked tirelessly with little results on the other flank.

Of the opportunities that Chivas did create, they lacked poise up front. This was especially true for former Tigres forward Alan Pulido, who couldn’t quite get a good shot off and even made a few errant passes in attack. Ángel Zaldívar was also unable to capitalize in front of goal as he mishandled a ball in the box in the 57th minute. Tigres would score on the counter that followed.

Hedgardo Marín was much improved from the visit to Toluca after being paired with Carlos Salcido. Michael Pérez continued his strong run of form with a few key interceptions and blocks.

While Tigres continues as the leader of the table, El Rebaño will have to put the pieces together when they return to Liga MX play on Friday night against Veracruz at the Estadio Luis 'Pirata' Fuente on September 23rd.
