Alemania
The Mexicans Abroad game of the weekend was Chicharito vs Fabian. It was great and full of action. Go here for my recap of the game and see Fabian’s postgame interview below.
Same Situation, Different Weekend
Memo faced another barrage of shots, his team missed a pk, and they went down a man in the 54th minute. Somehow they came out of it with a much needed point. Memo made 5 saves and tried to keep his defense organized. It’s going to be a long season for Memo.
Vela Starts!
Carlos Vela made his firsts start of the season for Real Sociedad as they took on Jona’s Villarreal. Gio’s brother started the game on the bench but would come in to play an ineffective 27 minutes. Granted, Jona was coming off a great game in Europa League, he was a little off today. Carlitos switched between right and left attacking midfielder positions and had his best showing of the season. Vela went the full 90 and played the role of playmaker, more than finisher. He finished the game with 5 key passes, no one on either team had more than 2. He had as many shots (1) as he did tackles (1). It was an encouraging start for the former Arsenal player. He will need to string more of these together if he wants to make JCO’s list.
Porto Can’t Capitalize
Layun was the only one who started with Tecatito and Herrera on the bench. He continues as Porto’s starting Right Back while Pereira is out injured. He led the team with 93 touches and was very active down the right wing. Unfortunately, Porto failed to score and the game ended 0-0. Tecatito came on for the last 14 minutes but did not make much of an impact. HH never got off the bench.
PSV Slip Up
The top 2 teams in the Eredivisie met Sunday, Feyenoord won it late and stayed in first place. They owe the victory to their keeper, Brad Jones, who was the Man of The Match. The loss kept PSV in 2nd place through the first 6 games of the season. Moreno started in his usual CB position and went the full 90. Hector ended the game as PSV’s highest rated player per WhoScored. He even chipped with 2 key passes. El Principito started and went 70 minutes
NOTES
-Carlos Salcedo was on the bench for Fiorentina’s Serie A game but did not see the field
-Diego Reyes came on for the last 8 minutes in Espanyol’s 2-0 defeat against Real Madrid.
-Gio Dos Santos was given the day off and did not come off the bench in the Galaxy game on Sunday.
What stood out to you this weekend?
