Mexico will call up Dedos Lopez and Carlos Fierro to replace the injured Peralta & Pizarro. The replacement players had to come from a previously submitted list of 4 possible players. It was not known who was on the list and speculation was wild on Twitter over who would get the call. Both players have extensive experience with the youth national teams and were on the bubble to make the final list to Rio. However, they are at opposite ends in terms of recent Liga MX playing time.
Carlos Fierro only has 18 league minutes in the Apertura for Queretaro. Dedos has played every minute for a 2nd place Pachuca squad already missing 4 Olympic players. Mexico has a must win game on Wednesday to advance to the next round of the Olympic tournament. Lopez should compete for minutes and could get a start at RB but Fierro is unlikely to see much time.
Do you see either player impacting Mexico’s chances of advancing?
