Report: Oribe Peralta and Rodolfo Pizzaro out of Rio 2016 Olympics

Mexico might be missing 2 starters for the rest of the Olympics.

Multiple news outlets are reporting Rodolfo Pizarro has a fractured fibula and will head back to Mexico to get treatment. His Olympics are over and he will face a 3-5 month recovery time before being able to suit up for Pachuca or El Tri. The 22 year old was a likely candidate to be called up by senior national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio for the friendlies in October.

In addition to Pizarro being sent home, Oribe Peralta suffered a fractured nose and could very well join him on the same flight home. The Club America striker suffered the injury during the game but played all 90 minutes and had two assists. His status is still up in the air.

Per regulations, Mexico can draft replacement players from a previously submitted list of four alternate players. Who those alternates are, we do not know. Mexico face a tough South Korea team on Wednesday with a spot in the knockout round on the line. A decision will likely need to be made tonight as to which replacement players will be called in and whether Peralta will go home with Pizarro.
