Mexicans Abroad had their ups and downs this weekend

Vela Benched?

For the second league game, Carlos Vela came off the bench. He has only played 35 total minutes and has appeared ineffective both appearances.

MLS Mexicanos

Both Gio and Cubo each got a start and off the bench appearance this week. Cubo was subpar in his midweek start and did even less in his 17 minute cameo off the bench. Gio’s performances were on the other end. Jona’s big bro had a good showing in his start, dropping several key passes for his teammate. His bench appearance was even better. Gio came in off the bench and jump started the Galaxy attack with this cheeky goal.

PorTri

Another game, another assist for Miguel Layun. Unfortunately, it was not enough for Porto to overcome their big rivals, Sporting CP.

No Minutos En Alemania

Marco Fabian made the gameday squad for Eintracht Frankfurt but did not get off the bench. It didn’t help his team went down a man. Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez had a different reason for not seeing the field this past weekend. The former Chivas striker suffered a fractured bone in his hand and will be out for a couple of weeks.

Raul En Fuego

Jimenez got his first league start and kept his scoring streak going. The Mexican striker iced the game with a stoppage time goal to put Benfica up 3-0. He had a great all around game and was the highest rated player on Benfica, per WhoScored.

On the day of el Clasico Nacional, Raul Jimenez paid tribute to Mexican great, Cuauhtemoc Blanco with his goal celebration.

Pobre Memo

It was not a day to remember for Granada and Paco Memo Ochoa.

The defense in front of Memo did not help him at all today but it wasn’t all their fault. Memo had a howler that led directly to a Las Palmas goal.

Paisas En PSV

PSV could not get one past a 10 man FC Groningen as their keeper, Sergio Padt, put in a MOTM performance. PSV had their man advantage for 60 minutes and it showed. The defending champions did everything but score as they held a 73/27 possession advantage and took 34 MORE shots than their opponents. They even missed a PK. Groningen had few attacking chances but Hector Moreno did have a goal line clearance to preserve the tie. El Principito did his best to try get all three points but this attempt went just wide.

Mexicans In Champions League

The Champions League draw was last week and we learned the group stage opponents for our participants. Tecatito did his part to ensure Porto made it to the Group Stage with this Golazo.

Salcedo Begins Fiorentina Career

Carlos Salcedo capped a crazy week for him that started in the Clasico Tapatio and ended with him making the bench as his new club celebrated 90 years. How will Salcedo fit in at his new club? I get some answers to that question.

What stood out to you this weekend?
