ACF Fiorentina are set to complete the signing of defender Carlos Salcedo from Chivas on a four-year contract, Univision Deportes reports. The fee is of a reported seven million dollars.

Salcedo, 22, has spent the last year at Chivas, racking up a total of 58 appearances and earning call-ups to both the senior Mexico national team and the Olympic squad that participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

After a stellar first season with Chivas, the defender attracted interest from a host of European clubs, including a strong link to Portuguese champions Benfica, but a move never seemed to have materialized.

Salcedo would become the only active Mexican player in Italy’s Serie A after Rafael Marquez’s brief stint at Hellas Verona.

Fiorentina finished fifth in the 2015/2016 Serie A season and will be participating in this year’s UEFA Europa League group stage. Their first game of the 2016/2017 Serie A campaign finished in a 2-1 defeat to current champions Juventus.
