Chivas and Atlas will renew their rivalry when both meet at the Estadio Chivas on Saturday in another edition of the Clásico Tapatío. There is no other way around it, this is the game in Guadalajara. The two biggest and most historic teams in the city collide in one of the most engaging ties in the Liga MX calendar year.

For the Rebaño Sagrado, it is about building on last week’s victory over Santos Laguna. While it is true that they beat a woeful Santos Laguna team, it was a victory Matias Almeyda’s side really needed. The team had entered a negative batch of games, and more importantly, they weren’t scoring any goals. A victory over their crosstown rivals would not only be a morale booster, but it it could be what propels the team to start scoring goals on a consistent basis.

For Atlas, scoring isn’t the problem, it is conceding. Despite looking impressive defensively in their first three games of the season, the Rojinegros have conceded a total of five goals in their last two matches. What’s more, they’ve been unable to win away from home this Apertura.

Atlas, though, have looked like a much-improved team from last season under new manager Jose Guadalupe Cruz. It is also worth mentioning, this Clasico takes extra significance considering Atlas are celebrating their team’s 100th year anniversary. Sure, Atlas have not defeated Chivas in the last five official Clásico Tapatíos, but statistics won’t matter too much for this one. What better way for the Rojinegros to celebrate their centenary year than by beating their arch-rivals?
