  • It might sound too premature to say, but much of FC Porto’s season hinges on what happens on Wednesday when the Dragões play host to AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League playoff. Some tournaments are bigger than others, and the fact remains, the Champions League is as big as it gets. For a team that has the reputation of craving glory back in Portugal, this is a competition Porto has to be in. In that regard, a good result at home could do wonders for Porto’s chances of progressing to the group stage. Of course, El Tri fans can expect Hector Herrera and Jesus “Tecatito” Corona to get some playing time, and Miguel Layun will at least make the bench.

For Roma’s part, as our friends from Chiesa Di Totti put it, this is a must-get-away-goals match. Roma has become a common fixture in the Champions League, but they’ve been dealt a tough draw this time around. The faith of this tie could come down to away goals, and as such, the Giallorossi will be desperate to leave Porto with a goal.
