Here’s the latest on our Mexicans Abroad

via @FCPorto

The European club season is not in full swing yet but a few Mexicans Abroad are into their seasons. Let’s roundup the latest.

PorTri

-Hector Herrera wore the captain’s armband and started along with Tecatito. Each player had a golazo of their own and helped Porto to a 3-1 victory over Rio Ave. WhoScored had Tecatito has the Man of the Match with HH just behind him. The Monterrey product nearly had a brace but the ball hit the post. Miguel Layun was on the bench but did see 23 minutes of action as a sub. Diego Reyes was not in the gameday squad amidst transfer speculation. The latest has several La Liga clubs interested in his services. Real Sociedad wants him back after his good season there while on loan last year.

Raul Jimenez

-Benfica’s most expensive transfer to date, did not get off the bench. The reigning Primeira Liga champions won their match 2-0 over Tondela.

Guardado & Moreno

-The Eredivisie is in week 2 and PSV had their home opener. Both Mexicans started for PSV and went the full 90. Hector Moreno was able to get his head on a cross into the box and gave PSV the lead. Although it was shaky at the end, PSV was able to hang on and stay perfect through 2. WhoScored gave Moreno the MOTM award with Andres Guardado a close runner up.

Notes

-Bayer Leverkusen played another friendly this weekend against Carlos Vela and Real Sociedad. Leverkusen won 2-0 and Javier Hernandez added to his preseason goal total.

-Jona Dos Santos has picked up an injury that will keep him out for a couple of weeks. He will miss Villarreal’s Champions League Playoff versus Monaco. Jona should be available for Mexico’s World Cup qualifiers in September, should JCO want him.

-Memo Ochoa has started nearly every preseason game for Granada since coming over on a loan from Malaga. The Mexican International is expected to start the season as the #1.
