It was always going to be a favorable start for Club America when it was announced they would play their first three games of the season at the Estadio Azteca. Still, to give Ignacio Ambriz’s side their due, their opponents have been anything but easy. Their toughest test may be yet to come, however, as they play host to Tigres in action of week 3 of the Liga MX Apertura.
Club America are a perfect 2/2, but they can be rest assured Tigres will provide them their toughest benchmark to date. Despite settling for goalless stalemates in their first two games of the season, you can’t draw too many negative conclusions from Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s side. Tigres remain one of the best sides in Liga MX, and that nature of having quiet control of things is something that has characterized this team in recent seasons.
As such, on paper at least, this is one of the marquee matchups of the week. It is still early days, but it would not be surprising to see these two teams again come November.
