The super-busy Chivas play a visit to Xolos de Tijuana at the Estadio Caliente on Friday. Matias Almeyda’s side arrive to this game on the back of a 1-0 win over Monterrey and will look to earn their first three points away from home in this Apertura.
The problem with the Rebaño Sagrado is they have a busy weekend ahead of them. In addition to beating Monterrey 1-0 last weekend, they played host to Chiapas on Tuesday in action of the Copa MX. After just two full days of rest, Chivas are now in Tijuana for their match against Xolos, and still have a friendly game against Arsenal in Southern California on Sunday.
Sure, this is a chance for Almeyda to assess his squad depth, but no doubt many will see their game against Arsenal as an extra burden, especially considering Chivas have lost a pair of players to the Mexico Olympic squad. That said, Chivas have shown promising glimpses in the first two weeks of the season. Jose Juan “Gallito” Vazquez made a case for his consideration as a viable alternative in the midfield, and Orbelin continues to impress in his second season with Chivas.
Of course, Xolos de Tijuana provide Chivas reason to be cautious. After going a full season without a single win at home, Xolos clinched their first home win of the season two weeks ago at the Estadio Caliente. Xolos, however, would be wrong to think they are in a path of renewed success, and their defeat to Puebla in week 2 showed the team still have plenty to work on. In that regard, Miguel Herrera and Co. will be eager to show their home fans this season isn’t headed for another dud.
