After a historic defeat in the quarterfinals of the Copa America Centenario, FMF secretary general Guillermo Cantu has given his vote of confidence towards Mexico national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio.
In a press conference on Thursday, Cantu ratified the Colombian manager following a meeting that took place in the home of Mexican football federation Decio De Maria's home.
"We have all been left with something to owe, but we have decided to continue with the project we chose in October."
"The results in this Copa America are a failure. But in the project for Russia 2018, we will have to have confidence in teamwork, with the leadership of Juan Carlos Osorio," explained Cantu.
Cantu also spoke briefly about Juan Carlos Osorio's controversial squad rotations, defending the former Atletico Nacional manager.
"Rotations are inevitable. There are moments where you more or less have to make them through injury, sometimes through suspension, and sometimes to give playing time to players that don't play regularly but I know there are moments where you have to make them," concluded Cantu.
Prior to Mexico's quarterfinal horror show, El Tri were riding a 22-game unbeaten run that stretched between three different managers. The result against Chile was the most lopsided defeat in an official match in Mexican soccer history.
