After a slow start against Peru, Gustavo Quintero's side found a way to pull themselves back into the game to earn a vital 2-2 draw. A team who at one stage of the game was virtually eliminated now has a genuinely clear path to the quarterfinals. It is simple, all Ecuador need to do is beat Haiti by two goals or more and La Tricolor will be one of eight teams still fighting for the title.
The one caveat is Ecuador are winless in their last five games, but in Haiti, La Tricolor couldn't find an easier opponent. Hati were eliminated from the competition after receiving a 7-1 thumping from Brazil.
In that regard, the fact that they scored a goal against the five-time World Cup champions should be a small consolation prize. The hope now is they get to celebrate again as they try to play spoilers against the Ecuadorians.
