The Mexican forward started the game on the bench but was extremely active as a second half substitute. With the score at 1-0, Chicharito quickly capitalized on his 15th league goal of the season in the 73rd minute with a smooth curling effort past the visiting goalkeeper from long range.
The goal ended Chicharito's Bundesliga drought of nearly five games without scoring a goal.
Chicharito also tallied up an assist when Vladen Yurchenko executed a first-time shot past Diego Benaglio with three minutes to go in the game.
The win was important for Bayer Leverkusen and the three points temporarily take the Workself into a Champions League position. Next for Bayer is a game against FC Koln in matchday 29.
