MLS vs. Liga MX quarterfinals finally got underway in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday.
Queretaro 2-0 DC United
Goals from Yerson Candelo and Edgar Benitez fired Queretaro into a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal victory with a 2-0 win over DC United.
Queretaro owe plenty to goalkeeper Tiago Volpi, who kept out several DC United attempts throughout the match.
After a timid first half from the hosts, Queretaro looked like a side with more urgency after the break and made the breakthrough in the 71st minute when Angel Sepulveda fed Candelo, who took aim on the edge of the area. Andrew Dykstra attempted to block the shot, only to see the ball curl into the back of the net.
The Gallos Blancos then got a second seven minutes from time. Sinha cleverly helped the ball on and Edgar Benitez was on hand to fire home from close range and give Queretaro a 2-0 advantage heading into the second leg.
Seattle Sounders 2-2 Club America
Club America twice came from a goal down to earn a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal tie with the Seattle Sounders.
The Sounders looked dangerous throughout the first 45 minutes, and it told before half-time as Clint Dempsey fired home from a free-kick to give the home-side the lead.
The Sounders' joy didn't last very long, and only moments later, a Rubens Sambueza pass sparked a quick breakaway for Carlos Darwin Quintero, who entered inside the box and finished around Stefan Frei to level the score.
In the second half, the Sounders pulled back into the lead when an Andreas Ivanschitz corner presented the ball to Demspey and "Deuce" sent his header goalwards to score his second of the night.
But in the 70th minute, Sambueza sent a pass nicely across the six-yard box for Oribe Peralta to finish for the 2-2.
The match then ended with no further score as Club America earned two important away goals ahead of the second leg at the Estadio Azteca next Wednesday.
