Oribe Peralta scores as Club America advance past rivals Chivas in Clasico Nacional

Club America booked their place in the semifinals of the 2016 Liga MX Apertura as Oribe Peralta’s second half header earned Las Aguilas a memorable win over rivals Chivas on Sunday.

Ricardo La Volpe’s side went into the second leg needing a win to progress, and faced a tough task away from the Estadio Azteca.

The hosts, though, struggled to break down the hard-working Aguilas, and despite seeing more of the ball, went down on the scoreline early in the second half. Darwin Quintero swiveled a ball in the area from a corner, and Oribe Peralta fired an instant header past Rodolfo Cota to give America the lead.

The goal left Chivas needing to score to go through, and against America’s five-man backline, it was always going to be a tall order.

America came close on several occasions to add to their lead on the counter, but at the end, their defense did enough hold on and seal their spot in the final four.
