It goes without saying, there isn’t a bigger game in Mexican fútbol than this one. As fate would have it, in Club America’s centenary season no less, Las Aguilas del America and las Chivas de Gudalajara will meet for the third time this semester at the Estadio Azteca when they set forth the first leg of their Liga MX quarterfinals clash.

For Las Aguilas it is quite simple. Ricardo Antonio La Volpe’s men need to find a way to crack Chivas’ recent hegemony at the Estadio Azteca or otherwise they will face a tough task heading into the second leg.

Chivas, on the other hand, know what it means to win in America’s home-ground. They’ve done it twice in the last three months, winning back in week 7 and eliminating their rivals on penalties in the Copa MX semifinals.

Form-wise, both teams couldn’t arrive in better shape. Las Aguilas went unbeaten in their last eight league games, while Chivas lost just once in their last seven.

As Clásico Nacionals go, this one is epic. Sure, both sides met last season in the quarterfinals, but plenty has happened in six months. This game has the recipe to be one of the most memorable Clasicos in recent memory, and whatever happens on Thursday, it will sure set things up nicely for the second leg.
